Box Control - Cold As Ice

June 13, 2008 – 9:29 am

Here is the next image in the Box Control series I am working on. This one brought on a few expletives during the shoot. Nothing like loading 120 pounds of ice into a wood box. But DEFINITELY nothing close to trying to remove it all 20 minutes later. Gotta love the natural way of the ol’ elements. You know, ice becoming liquid. Yay!!

Prints are now available on the updated Box Control website as well. The 13×19 inch prints are available in editions of 50. However, there is a single edition of each image in the form of a lightjet print mounted on dibond. These single editions are available at the gallery event (to be announced) or special order.

Check out all the dirt and sign up for updates at the Box Control website.

Box Control - An Art Collection of Boxed Personalities

May 31, 2008 – 4:50 pm

“Throw together a custom made box, some folks you’ve never met, a handful that you know, a few you would like to know and a pinch of unexpected: you get what I fondly refer to as Box Control.”

After lots of planning, some building and a bit of painting, my new art project is underway. This last weekend I shot the first round of the collection with TC, a friend and model, from L.A. Above are a couple shots from the series. Various images from the series will be available as limited edition prints and others will be held back for something special in the future.

More information on this series can be found at BoxControl.JoshColePhoto.com

Today I finished the first shoot of many for a gallery show and upcoming book. I can now say that I am busting at the seams with excitement. For more updates on the show and book keep an eye out on this here blog or go sign up for the update newsletter at JoshColePhoto.com.

PDN 2008 Photo Annual - Now Online

May 13, 2008 – 11:04 pm

Thanks to Mr. Haggart at APE for sharing a link to the online version of the 2008 Annual.  I could not find it for the life of me.  Seems that the online gallery of winners was released 2 days ago.  Thanks for posting the link Rob.

So Much To Love About Faces

May 13, 2008 – 8:57 pm

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take photos at the Iroquois Steeplechase here in Nashville for their style guide called the “Look Book”. It was about 9am when I left the Panera Bread Company near the races. This was my first year in attendance so I can honestly say I didn’t know what to expect. And I had no idea the traffic was going to be so insane. Yes, insanity in motorized vehicle form. It took us about an hour and forty minutes to get there…only about 6 miles.

Oh well, it was fun watching all the people along the way and gave me plenty of chance to shoot random photos along the way. Once arriving I headed to the corporate tents where I met my client. Once in the tent there was plenty of food, drink and cigars to make up for chaos early on. From that point on I shot and shot and shot throughout the day, with the help of Coury and Alexis.

And let me tell you, it was awesome. So many incredible people and events to capture. Yet this day I didn’t have all the lighting equipment or a set to create. This instead was all natural. It was a day that reminded me just how much I love capturing faces. The portrait continues to win my heart. Keep on reading for more shots from the day.

Josh Cole Photography Makes PDN 2008 Photo Annual

May 5, 2008 – 3:28 pm

A couple months ago (roughly) I received an email from PDN (Photo District News) magazine announcing that I made the 2008 Photo Annual. Well, to my surprise I received my latest issue of PDN magazine today, which happened to be the Photo Annual. Made it onto page 126 with a shot from the Lynden packaging shoot. Thanks to all the judges this year. It is greatly appreciated.

Twisted Sister

May 4, 2008 – 5:56 pm

Finished some editing on a personal shoot we did a week ago. The shoot had some hiccups but was a great time. A lesson I learned during this shoot was this. When a train goes by at a high rate of speed, the air current is such that it can draw a large softbox underneath it without much effort at all.

Rock-n-Roll is Dead: Coury Palermo

April 21, 2008 – 4:18 pm

Here’s an updated shot, from the Coury Palermo session, now that I have wrapped up the post work on the first series of 7.  Still so much post to go, but at least I LOVE doing it. This is a single image from a set of 3 (the image in the previous blog post is from that series, sans final post) that will be used in promotion and packaging items.

Rachael Lampa & File Structure?!

April 6, 2008 – 3:52 pm

Two Shots From a Shoot With Rachael Lampa

As I was doing edits today on a couple new projects I got sucked into the netherworld that is my harddrive. As I was productively aiming for a particular folder, another folder caugh my attention. It’s my ol’ ‘post’ working folder. In doing so I found some work I have yet to post to the main site (why is posting to one’s own portfolio site such a difficult task to follow through with?). The first of which are these two Rachael Lampa shots. Love love love the hair in these. Debbie Dover, the makeup/hair artist responsible for this did an absolutely killer job in executing the vision.

Tangent/Sidenote/Rabbit Trail - What kind of file structure do you (calling all photographers) use in your production environment? Any particular system that works stellar for you?
